The iWareBatikapp, developed within USI's UNESCO Chair and implemented by Università della Svizzera italiana eLab, was awarded "App of the Day" by the Indonesian AppStore on 17 August 2024, in conjunction with Indonesia's national holiday, which celebrates the country's declaration of independence. This acknowledgement underlines the importance of the app in raising awareness of Indonesia's Batik textile tradition - recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage - and its ability to promote sustainable tourism in the country.

The app aims to promote and preserve the traditional art of Batik and its connection to all regions of Indonesia. It is the result of a deep commitment to culture and digital education. Being selected as "App of the Day" is not only a prestigious achievement but also a clear validation of the app's educational and cultural value.

The recognition celebrates the effectiveness of iWareBatik (which also features the same website, www.iwarebatik.org) in combining culture and digital media. The collaboration between the UNESCO Chair and USI's eLab, led respectively by Professor Lorenzo Cantoni and Dr Stefano Tardini, allowed a millenary textile tradition to be transformed into a modern and globally accessible app.
