Farewell to Gianni Aprile

Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) remembers with gratitude Dr Gianni Aprile, former Director of Banca della Svizzera Italiana (BSI) and sponsor of the "Pietro Balestra Prize for Quantitative Subjects". Dr Gianni Aprile's commitment to promoting excellence in the study of quantitative sciences at USI leaves a lasting impression on our academic community.
Dr Gianni Aprile was instrumental in establishing the award in 2006 in memory of Prof. Pietro Balestra, the first Dean of the Faculty of Economics at USI and full professor of econometrics, whose PhD student he had been at the University of Geneva. The prize has since been awarded annually to the bachelor economics student with the best overall grade in Econometrics, Statistics and Mathematics. Dr Gianni Aprile received his doctorate in economics from the University of Geneva in 1983 under the direction of Prof. Pietro Balestra, with an econometric study on public spending in Switzerland.
