MAS HLM: Logistica umanitaria, dai "cluster" di cooperazione alle operazioni sul campo del World Food Program

Come si coordinano sul campo le numerose istituzioni attive nel settore dell'aiuto umanitario? Come si muove una delle più grandi e importanti agenzie del settore, come il World Food Program?

Il prossimo sabato 11 luglio, alle ore 14.00 nell'Auditorium del Campus di Lugano dell'USI, Matthew Hollingworth - Responsabile delle Nazioni Unite per il "Logistic Cluster Support Cell" - terrà una conferenza in lingua inglese per cercare di dare una risposta a queste domande. Nella sua conferenza, intitolata "The United Nations Cluster Approach and World Food Program's New Role as Service provider", Matthew Hollingworth discuterà il ruolo dei "cluster" all'interno delle realtà logistiche delle agenzie delle Nazioni Unite, così come all'interno delle altre organizzazioni attive in ambito umanitario. In questo contesto sarà anche esposto il sistema di operazioni logistiche del World Food Program.

Il Cluster approch è stato creato dalla Inter Agency Standing Committee (IASC) nel Settembre del 2005, perché diventasse il "principale meccanismo di coordinazione tra le organizzazioni per l'aiuto umanitario". Si tratta di un punto di incontro unico che coinvolge partner UN e non-UN e il World Food Program ne è il leader livello globale.

Al termine della conferenza Matthew Hollingworth risponderà alle domande del pubblico.

La conferenza è promossa e organizzata dal Master of Advanced Studies in Humanitarian Logistics and Management (MAS HLM) dell'Università della Svizzera italiana.

The United Nations Cluster Approach and World Food Program's New Role as Service provider - Matthew Hollingworth Head UN global logistics cluster support cell

Matthew Hollingworth will talk about the role of the United Nations Cluster approach as the primary mechanism coordinating UN and non-UN humanitarian relief operations. He will also review the logistics operations for the World Food Program (WFP), the world's largest humanitarian organization, and their new role as a service provider to other humanitarian agencies.

The Cluster Approach  was endorsed by the Inter Agency Standing Committee (IASC) in Sept. '05 The IASC, in its own words, is "the primary mechanism for inter agency coordination of humanitarian assistance. It is a unique forum involving key UN and non-UN humanitarian partners". WFP is the logistics cluster lead at global level.
