To help current students and recent graduates navigate the world of work, several USI Alumni shared their career paths and career story. Here the story of Davide Gerosa, Group Credit Analyst at Pirelli in Milan (I). USI Degree: Master in Management, 2022.

How did you start your career?

During my last University semester I started an internship at the end of which I got hired. At the same time I also completed my studies at USI and I officially started working with a full time contract.

Why did you choose a career at Pirelli?

The main reason for which I decided to work for Pirelli is related to the possibility to start my career in a multinational company recognized all over the world. This I hope will allow me to enrich me both from a human and professional perspective.

What is your current role/duties?

The main goal of my role is to evaluate and manage the company credits under different perspectives:

  • Financial risk: focusing on customers financial wellness, we try to reduce risk in terms of Credit Exposure. This can be done through an efficient customer portfolio structure.
  • Accounting: being Pirelli a listed company, we also perform all the activities useful to “build” financial statements. The main one is Bad Debt Calculation.

In your opinion, what are the qualities necessary for a successful career at Pirelli?

From my point of view, being focused and open to changes are two qualities you should have if you want to achieve a successful career.

What positive aspects and qualities meant most to you during the study programme you attended?

Strictly connected with the previous point, I think that USI allowed me to become more flexible than I was used to be. Indeed thanks to the different practical projects I was involved into I had the chance to work on different topics (sometimes far from my interests and strengths) and to work with different people.

What competences and/or skills acquired in your USI Study Program have been useful/are useful to your professional career?

  • Solid theoretical background
  • flexibility
  • possibility to choose my own study path specializing my studies during my exchange program

What is your advice to USI students entering the job market?

My suggestion would be to start the career journey in the most proactive way, having no fear of changes and giving every time his/her 100%.
