Decanato - Facoltà di scienze informatiche

Data d'inizio: 19 Aprile 2013

Data di fine: 20 Aprile 2013

The Faculty of Informatics is pleased to announce a seminar given by Daniele Panozzo

DATE: Friday, April 19th, 2013
PLACE: USI Università della Svizzera italiana, room SI-007, Informatics building (Via G. Buffi 13)
TIME: 10.30

ABSTRACT:
We introduce a global parametrization algorithm that generates a symmetric, feature-aligned quadrangulation, starting from an unstructured triangle mesh. The quadrangulation is used to discretize forces inside a masonry building, enabling to automatically generate a self-supporting 3D model that stands without additional reinforcements. The user-provided sketch of the structure is deformed to make it self-supporting, and split in hexagonal blocks using a pattern that prevents sliding failure. The talk will be self-contained, and suitable for a general computer science or math audience.

BIO:
Daniele Panozzo is a post-doctoral researcher at ETH Zurich, where he works in the Interactive Geometry Lab. He earned his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Genova in 2012. In the spring and summer of 2008, he visited the University of Maryland. During the fall and winter of 2010, he was a visiting researcher at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University. Daniele is interested in digital geometry processing, shape modeling, computational photography and architectural geometry.
