Sensemaking at the edge of life: public lecture of Prof. Joseph Porac

Before the development of a drug response, the treatment of an epidemic implies an interpretative consensus between different actors and a coordinated organizational response. This is not guaranteed when a large number of actors from different professional, cultural and social backgrounds are involved.
Joseph Porac,, Professor of Business Leadership at NYU Stern School of Business, has studied two different cases of epidemic spread (the Sin Nombre Virus in New Mexico in 1993 and the West Nile Virus in New York in 1999). The results of these studies have profound consequences for various fields, from management to public health and medicine.
Prof. Porac will present his findings during a public lecture, organized by the Institute of Management and Organization (IMO, USI Faculty of Economics) as part of the 'Visiting Professor' program of USI, on Tuesday, April 2, at 5:30 p.m., at the Lugano campus Auditorium.
Free admission. The lecture will be given in English.
