Date: 17 April 2019 / 11:30 - 12:30

USI Lugano Campus, room SI-008, Informatics building, (Via G. Buffi 13)

Speaker:
Matteo Lostaglio, ICFO, Spain

Abstract:
Dr. Matteo Lostaglio will give a quick introduction to the resource theory approach to quantum thermodynamics and some selected developments. He will touch upon some of the things that have been learned from this approach concerning irreversibility, as incapsulated by the second law(s), the role of quantum superpositions in thermodynamics, as captured by symmetry constraints, and the importance of correlations (as well as their lack) as a resource for thermodynamic tasks.

Biography:
Matteo Lostaglio has done his PhD in Controlled Quantum Dynamics at Imperial College London. As a postdoctoral researcher at Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO) in Barcelona he works on quantum optics.

Host:
Prof. Stefan Wolf
