Planning for the future of the family business

Institutional Communication Service

Date: 16 May 2019 / 16:30 - 19:00

Executive Center (aula blu), USI campus di Lugano

The longevity of family businesses is determined by the family itself. It is therefore crucial to plan the future of the family and its relations with the company, both from the point of view of ownership and management. Only in this way is it possible to pass on a tradition of business over several generations.

Associazione delle imprese familiari (AIF Ticino) and the USI Advanced Management Center organise three workshops on the theme of planning family dynamics. The first workshop, on May 16, 2019, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., in the Executive Center (blue room) at USI, will address the main topic of the series, that is the planning of the future of the family. During the afternoon, participants will discuss how to arrive at inheritance planning and how to define a coherent set of principles and rules for entry/exit. These are themes that are particularly relevant in multi-branch families. Various planning tools will be presented, such as external advisors, family pacts, family councils, or meetings between young people (also from different family branches).

The workshop is chaired by Prof. Gianluca Colombo (Istitute of Management and Organisation, IMO, USI Faculty of Economics), Prof. Daniela Montemerlo (Università dell'Insubria) and Umberto Giovine (MG Partner, Lugano).

The next workshops are:

  • September 19, 2019 - The FAMILY CANVAS Model, chaired by Umberto Giovine
  • November 2019, FAMILY CANVAS weekend, with Prof. Salvo Tomaselli (Università degli Studi, Palermo) and chaired by Umberto Giovine
