2 March 2022

The conference "Privacy e hacking tra mito e minacce" (Privacy and hacking between myths and threats) will take place on 22 March 2022, from 3 to 4:30 pm, in the multipurpose room of East Campus Lugano. The conference is promoted as part of the initiatives on digital awareness at USI.

Cyber security is no longer a purely technical issue that mainly involves experts. On the contrary, this area is now typically political and touches everyone's daily life. The conference will tackle the issue from a sociological perspective, taking stock of topics such as hacking, surveillance and other risks associated with "living online". The aim is to debunk the clichés that often emerge in the public narrative, proposing practical solutions within everyone's reach, starting by debating some common risk-scenarios, in light of some keywords: privacy, threat, hacker, surveillance, myth.

Phillip Di Salvo, a post-doctoral researcher at the Institute of Media and Journalism at USI, will be the guest expert at the conference. Currently, Philip is a Visiting Fellow at the Department of Media and Communications at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), researching whistleblowing, investigative journalism, Internet surveillance, and the relationship between journalism and hacking. Chiara Fanetti, RSI journalist, will moderate the event.

The conference will be held in Italian and will take place on 22 March, from 3 to 4:30 pm in the multipurpose room, East Campus Lugano.

Registration is required to attend. Please register via email by Friday, 18 March 2022 at [email protected]

After the event, light refreshments will be provided for the audience. Currently, access to the conference is not subject to COVID pass, as per federal regulations. However, changes could occur should the pandemic situation shift.

USI administrative employees are strongly encouraged to attend.
