Nikolaus Geyrhalter’s film “Matter Out of Place” follows the traces of rubbish across the planet and sheds light on people's endless struggle to control the vast quantities of waste.
The simultaneous screening opens the new movie series “21st Century Material Transitions”, jointly conceived by USI Accademia di architettura and the ETH D-ARCH with the Locarno Film Festival.
The movie series “21st Century Material Transitions” explores the 21st-century material turn through experimental documentaries, research documents, and science fiction films that witness the due shift toward a sustainable material strategy. The selected films intend to reflect on sustainability not as a predetermined formula but as an ongoing process of collective sociocultural practices.
