Inaugural lecture by Prof. Silvia Santini

Staff - Faculty of Informatics

Start date: 6 April 2017

End date: 7 April 2017

The inaugural lecture by Silvia Santini "The Sensor Data Deluge: Opportunities and Pitfalls of Smart Sensing Technologies" (in English), will take place on Thursday, April 6, at 5:30pm in the Lugano campus Auditorium.

"Sensors have become ubiquitous in our lives. They are embedded in mobile phones, wearable devices, cars, roads, and buildings. This abundance of sensing devices has given rise to an increasing "quantification" of many aspects of daily life, including the attempt to model and predict both collective and individual human behavior. While behavior prediction has the potential to improve many aspects of human life and to foster economic growth, one must not forget that any technology is also prone to failures or even misuse. In my inaugural lecture, I will give examples of how smart sensing technologies are becoming ubiquitous in our life, and will discuss both the opportunities and pitfalls of collecting and using sensor data".
