Blockchain can help to tackle many contemporary humanitarian challenges more effectively. Claudio Bareato, an active professional in Chiasso’s crypto-hub, presents a brief overview of the new technology-driven paradigm Blockchain.

First, he explains the blockchain concept and its core features by introducing its main application to the financial domain, namely the transfer of money and value through the new cryptocurrencies. He then reviews the new range of capabilities and practical enhancements that Blockchain promises to bring to a number of sectors, including the multi-faceted humanitarian setting. He discusses a few other emerging applications to areas relevant to the humanitarian domain and provides input for a possible deepening of blockchain knowledge for humanitarian professionals with an application perspective.
